Open to Shakespeare

Prior to this class watching the new version of Romeo and Juliet was my only exposure to any of Shakespeare's work. I had no idea that he was such a genius. I didn't realize all of the plays on words that he used, all of the dirty jokes that he tosses in there that are sometimes hard to catch. His writing is also very interesting because it makes you think more because of the amazingly colorful use of the language. The structure that he uses in his writing is another thing that really impressed me. I have recently become a fan of Shakespeare and am looking forward to reading more of his work even though at times I do have to read it a couple times to really understand what he is doing with his words. Hamlet has opened me to Shakespeare.

I don’t know, I myself wouldn’t call him a genius though. He was just an average guy trying to make a living in the city. And the movie "Shakespeare in Love" is totally fictional. You have to realize that the things in the movie had nothing to do really with the "real" William Shakespeare. A lot of stuff he wrote was in the everyday language of that time in England. People now just think its amazing because no one talks like that now. Maybe people in the future might be amazed at the way we write because they wont talk like us. So the style of writing has to do with the time period too.
